In the first half of the 20th century drive models such as a circular saw, grinding machine, forge or hammer mill were standard accessories for every toy steam engine: driven by transmission belts, they demonstrated how in a workshop all the machines ran from a single source of power. The movable tin figures at the workbenches turned the physics teaching aid into a small factory scene and are today the real collecting appeal. Mounting on a common wooden board was a usual solution for aligning engine and models permanently with one another.
