Märklin 3102 Mallet articulated steam locomotive class 53 Borsig of the DR, gauge H0, orig. box Steam locomotive with tender of gauge H0 by Märklin, article number 3102, model of class 53 after the design by Borsig. Articulated locomotive of the Mallet type with four cylinders, wheel arrangement (1'C)D, plastic body with cast boiler, painted black with running gear picked out in red, twin-light headlamp signal at both ends. In original packaging, the box with storage marks. The electrics respond (light illuminates, motor hums), however the drive is seized and gummed up due to the long period of standing; servicing and cleaning are required. Played-with condition. The absence of smaller, delicate add-on parts cannot be entirely ruled out. In 1943 the German Reichsbahn awarded development contracts for a super-heavy goods-train locomotive with low axle load; Borsig in Berlin responded with the design of a Mallet articulated locomotive with seven driven axles. The project got no further than the drawing board - whether an operational example was ever built is not certain. Märklin took up the design in 1979 and had the model in its range until 1988. It is thus among the few models whose prototype never entered regular service in this form.
