Märklin MS 800 Electric Locomotive Class E 18, Gauge H0, 1947 to 1950s Gauge H0 electric locomotive by Märklin, model MS 800 after the prototype of Class E 18. Die-cast zinc body, painted green with a beige-grey roof, black cast chassis with four powered axles and red wheel centres. Two scissor-type pantographs on the roof with copper-coloured contact strips and red-painted roof cabling in between, roof fittings with ventilation grilles and insulators. Raised lettering on the long sides, windows with backed glazing, applied grab rails and step plates, twin headlights at both ends. Played with, showing signs of age and paint chipping. The function of the locomotive has been tested and is given. The absence of smaller, delicate add-on parts cannot be entirely ruled out. The piece of track shown serves for presentation only. 360-degree photo on our website. From 1947 the MS 800 replaced the older HS 800 and belongs, together with the CCS 800 Crocodile, the TP 800 and the G 800, to that model generation with which Märklin moved to more true-to-scale bodies after the war. The prototype is the Class E 18 express locomotive, built from 1935 for the Deutsche Reichsbahn, whose streamlined casing is regarded as remarkable in design terms. The 800 series stands for the Perfekt switching system introduced in 1938, the alternating-current system with overvoltage reversing still in common use today.
