PIKO Streamlined Steam Locomotive ME 101 with Tender in Zinc Die-Cast, H0, circa 1949 Streamlined steam locomotive with tender by PIKO, H0. Zinc die-cast body in black livery with a red lining, embossed “ME 101” to the sides, tender of Bakelite. Played-with, with signs of age and corrosion. The electrics respond (light on, motor humming), the drive is seized after long standing (gummed up); servicing and cleaning are required. The piece of track shown serves for presentation only. The absence of smaller, delicate applied parts cannot be entirely ruled out. The ME 101 is the earliest and rarest locomotive by PIKO: made in 1949 at the Kabel Chemnitz works (later RFT), with a zinc die-cast body, a Bakelite tender and a contemporary universal motor. As one of the first PIKO models of the early post-war years, the streamlined locomotive is particularly sought after by collectors of historic model railways.
