Lot of 400 coins 200 Mark 1923 D, aluminium, German Reich, in bags of the Bavarian Mint Treasury Aluminium, 400 circulation coins of 200 Mark, German Reich, 1923, mint mark D (Munich), Jaeger no. 304, denomination side with large numeral "200", below it "MARK", date "1923" and mint letter "D", legend "DEUTSCHES REICH", eagle side with imperial eagle and legend "EINIGKEIT UND RECHT UND FREIHEIT", 100 pieces each in four paper bags printed "20.000 M (= 100 Stück) in 200 M-Stücken. Bayerische Münzkasse. Bei Reklamationen ist die Tüte vorzulegen.", paper bags with signs of use, one bag torn at the bottom, wt. per bag approx. 103 g The aluminium 200 Mark coin was struck in 1923 as a regular circulation coin of the German Reich at the mints of Berlin (A), Munich (D), Muldenhütten (E), Stuttgart (F), Karlsruhe (G) and Hamburg (J); Munich accounted for just over 35 million pieces. A single coin measures 23 mm and weighs 1 g. The design with the imperial eagle and the motto "Einigkeit und Recht und Freiheit" (Unity and Justice and Freedom) was created by the sculptor Joseph Wackerle. Unlike the emergency money (Notgeld) issued independently by towns, savings banks and companies, the coin was legal tender of the Weimar Republic. It belongs to the coinage of the hyperinflation: after the occupation of the Ruhr in January 1923 the mark collapsed so quickly that by November 1923 one US dollar cost 4.2 trillion marks. With the introduction of the Rentenmark on 15 November 1923, set equal to one trillion paper marks, the inflation ended.
