Generally good condition. The Tirpitz was a battleship of the Bismarck class, launched on 1 April 1939 at the Kriegsmarinewerft Wilhelmshaven and commissioned on 25 February 1941. From 1942 she lay in Norwegian fjords, among others near Trondheim, in the Altafjord and finally near Tromsø, and from there threatened the Allied convoys to the Soviet Union. On 12 November 1944 the ship capsized off the island of Håkøya near Tromsø after hits by British Lancaster bombers with Tallboy bombs; the wreck was scrapped in situ until 1957. The neutral cap tally with the inscription “Kriegsmarine” was issued by the navy to petty officers and ratings by decree of 5 September 1939, because tallies bearing ship names had to be exchanged for reasons of secrecy. The work book was issued by the labour offices under the law of 26 February 1935; workers and employees could only be employed if they held such a document.
