Group of 15 Elastolin Composition Soldiers at Rest with Gun, 1930s/40s Group of 15 composition figures modelled over a wire armature, in part with the Elastolin base mark (O. & M. Hausser). Depicted are German soldiers of the 1930s/40s at rest: a reclining officer, seated and eating soldiers, an accordion player, a wounded man with an arm sling as well as standing figures in field grey and dark uniforms. In addition a small gun on a green base. Figure height 3.5 to 8 cm. Played-with, with signs of age as well as losses and breaks. The company O. & M. Hausser sold its figures under the Elastolin brand name from 1904; they were made from a composition of sawdust, glue and kaolin over a wire skeleton and painted by hand. Resting, music and camp scenes go beyond the plain marching figures and are sought after by collectors of historic composition toys.
