The Marine-HJ was set up in 1935 as a special unit of the Hitler Youth (HJ) alongside the Motor-, Flieger- and Nachrichten-HJ; its honorary leader was retired Vice Admiral Adolf von Trotha, and it trained in Reich naval sports schools such as Prieros and Seemoos on Lake Constance according to the requirements of the Kriegsmarine. The textbook for the Marine-HJ was published by E. S. Mittler & Sohn, the military publishing house founded in Berlin in 1789, which celebrated its 150th anniversary in 1939. The Georg Kallmeyer Verlag in Wolfenbüttel was the publisher of the youth music movement around Fritz Jöde in the 1920s and after 1933 became the official publisher of the HJ songs; the Möseler Verlag emerged from it in 1950. The "Weihnachtsbücher der deutschen Jugend" were a series of the NSDAP's central publishing house Franz Eher Nachfolger in Munich. Songbooks, service regulations and textbooks of the HJ today belong to the literature of contemporary history collected as source material on the education and indoctrination of young people under National Socialism.
