Two sidearms: short dress bayonet in KS98 pattern, Solingen, and Puma-Werk sidearm Steel and leather, two sidearms with scabbards, Solingen. 1) Short dress bayonet in KS98 pattern: single-edged blade, at the ricasso the pictorial marks crowned king's head and knight's helmet of the firm Weyersberg, Kirschbaum & Cie., crossguard with hook curved towards the grip, black chequered grip scales, bird's-head pommel, black scabbard with leather frog with press stud, L. 30 cm. 2) Sidearm: fullered blade, at the ricasso “PUMA-WERK SOLINGEN”, straight crossguard, black grained grip scales with two rivets, silver-coloured bird's-head pommel, black scabbard with brown leather strap with press studs and embossed “HB” and a symbol, L. 26 cm. Various conditions. Please inspect. Blade lengths 15 and 15.5 cm The pictorial marks king's head and knight's helmet stand for Weyersberg, Kirschbaum & Cie. in Solingen: the Weyersberg family is documented there as swordsmiths since 1573; in 1883 it merged with the trading house Kirschbaum and united both trademarks, the king's head of the Weyersbergs and the knight's helmet of the Kirschbaums. The firm became the leading Solingen manufacturer of sidearms and sabres. Puma-Werk goes back to Johann Wilhelm Lauterjung, who entered his mark in the Solingen cutlers' roll in 1769; in the 20th century the brand became known for its hunting and scout knives. Both pieces have the bird's-head pommel that characterises short sidearms.
