GY. stands for the Fegyver- és Gépgyár in Budapest, alongside the Österreichische Waffenfabriks-Gesellschaft in Steyr the second manufacturer of this model. During the First World War Walter & Co. in Mühlhausen in Thuringia assembled Seitengewehr 84/98 and 98/05 bayonets from supplied blades; the flash guard identifies the new pattern version introduced from 1915.
