Round barrel, the stamped number “265” at the breech, half stock with brass-coloured fore-end cap, oval brass-coloured screw plate on both sides of the fore-end, iron ramrod in two pipes. Percussion lock with lock plate rounded at the rear and scroll engraving, hammer with scroll engraving, nipple, on the opposite side a lozenge-shaped brass-coloured side plate with lock screw, brass-coloured trigger guard, on the butt a shaped brass-coloured plate with keyhole-shaped cut-out, fastened with two screws, with the round lid of a patchbox, sling swivel on the butt. Age-appropriate condition, mechanism functional, small crack below the lock towards the trigger. L. 121 cm The scroll engraving on lock plate and hammer shows the craftsmanship of the percussion lock, whose percussion cap system Alexander John Forsyth patented in 1807. The hammer strikes the percussion cap on the nipple, which made ignition more weatherproof than with the flintlock. Half-stocked percussion rifles with round barrel and ramrod in pipes belong to the muzzleloaders of the period before the breechloaders, which became established from the mid-19th century.
