Flintlock without flint, lock plate following British service locks with crown above “V.R”, inscribed “TOWER”. Reddish-brown stained stock with raised cheek-piece, long fore-end, barrel secured with pins, with oval pin escutcheons. Brass mounts: trigger guard with curved grip spur, butt plate, patchbox with stepped hinged lid in the right side of the butt, ramrod pipe. Iron ramrod, folding rear sight and foresight, sling swivels. Very good condition, mechanism works, barrel with isolated spots, brass slightly tarnished, no missing parts discernible. Please inspect. L. 120 cm. The Baker Rifle was the rifle of the British rifle regiments in the Napoleonic Wars. After trials by the Board of Ordnance at Woolwich in February 1800, the London gunmaker Ezekiel Baker received the contract; the weapon had a 30-inch barrel with seven-groove rifling in the carbine calibre .625 and was carried above all by the 95th Rifles, the 60th Regiment and parts of the King’s German Legion, made in London and Birmingham. Characteristics of the original model are the cheek-piece stock and the patchbox with hinged brass lid, which held greased patches and tools. Original locks bear the crown above “G.R” for Georgius Rex and the marking “TOWER” as the sign of government acceptance; the crown above “V.R” stands for Victoria Regina and is found on British service weapons from the reign of Queen Victoria from 1837. At the end of the 1830s the percussion Brunswick Rifle replaced the Baker. Muzzle-loader exempt from licensing under German law, also as a replica, sale to persons aged 18 and over only.
