Vellum charter of Albrecht Anton, Imperial Count of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt, tailors' guild, 1701 Charter on vellum as a bifolium. The text begins with the calligraphically extended intitulatio 'Wir Albrecht Anton, Reichsgraf zu Schwarzburg' and is written in German chancery script in dense, even lines; the initial letters of the opening line are ornamented with flourishes and loops. The text concerns the tailors' craft. The drawn coat of arms with helmet crest and inscription sits on the added folder. Age-appropriate condition, stained, rubbed, with fold marks. Overall size 33 x 28 cm (HxW) Albrecht Anton (1641–1710) ruled the county of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt in what is now Thuringia from 1662 until his death; a few months before his death Emperor Joseph I raised him to the rank of imperial prince. Charters of this kind issued by the territorial ruler regulated the order of the guild crafts: they confirmed or renewed the guild articles laying down the period of apprenticeship, the masterpiece, the conditions of admission and the number of masters permitted. For the history of craft in a region such sheets are sources of the first rank, because they transmit the legal framework of the trade at first hand.
