THE PROTOCOLS OF ZION. A Plan for the Conquest of the Universe Carried Out by the Judeo-Masons. Second edition. Published by “Chasovoy,” Regional Printing House of the Great Don Army, Novocherkassk, 1918. 48 pp., regional edition (detached from the block), 27 × 18 cm, stapled, poor condition (creases along the edges, numerous pencil markings). A great rarity. The first edition of *The Protocols of the Elders of Zion* appeared in 1903 in Pavel Krushevan’s newspaper. The first edition to gain notoriety and widespread circulation was the version by the writer and mystic Sergei Nilus, published in 1905. During the Civil War, the “Protocols” were reprinted and became part of the documentary evidence used to accuse Jews of organizing the Russian Revolution. It was this very edition that was taken into exile along with the White émigrés and became the basis for numerous editions of the Protocols published in other countries.
