18th-century ITALIAN School, follower of Michele Giovanni Marieschi (1696–1743) Venice, the Church and Hospital of the Mendicanti Oil on canvas H_36.5 cm W_42.5 cm Restorations This painting is part of the tradition of 18th-century Venetian vedute and draws inspiration from the compositions of Luca Carlevarijs (1663–1730), considered one of the pioneers of Venetian veduta painting. In 1703, the artist published his famous collection *Le Fabriche e Vedute di Venetia*, bringing together 104 engravings depicting the main monuments and views of the Most Serene Republic. Widely circulated, these prints served as an important source of inspiration for veduta painters. These views enjoyed immense success throughout the 18th century, particularly among travelers on the Grand Tour. Here, the artist draws inspiration from the work of masters of the genre such as Canaletto, Francesco Guardi, and Francesco Tironi.
