17th-century Flemish School, circle of Jan van Duyts (1629–1676) Children’s Bacchanal Oil on canvas Height: 80.5 cm; Width: 107 cm (Restorations) Inscription on the back “M. Laffut” and label “Wan Dhuijt” (probably for Jan van Duyts (1629–1676). In a beautiful Louis XIII-style frame Jan van Duyts was a Flemish painter born in Antwerp and a student of the portraitist Frans Denys (1610–1670). He specialized in history painting, religious and mythological compositions, as well as portraiture. He is notably mentioned by Cornelis de Bie in his *Het Gulden Cabinet* (1662), for his talent and his compositions. His work remains largely unknown today. A composition signed and dated 1671 is notably reproduced in a gallery painting by Gonzales Coques, housed at the Royal Łazienki Palace Museum in Warsaw.
