Charles I of Sicily and VII of Naples.—Printed, without place or date, during the reign of the future Charles III of Spain. Resolution lifting the prohibitions on the importation of tobacco and other products into Sicily, as well as ending the "contumancia" (quarantine) that goods and correspondence underwent in the lazarettos located in the ports. The document also cites the Cathar Mouths (present-day Montenegro), Albania, and Ragusa (present-day Dubrovnik) as places of origin for diseases. Although Sicily was no longer a territory directly dependent on the Spanish monarchy, the document is written primarily in Spanish, with some Italian and Latin also included. (Charles ascended to the throne of Naples and Sicily following the military defeat of Spanish troops by the Austrians in 1735).
