Isidore LEROY MANUFACTURE, circa 1872–1873. Louis XIV style. A collection of 10 working documents, original full-scale models, and early test prints. Seven elements for female figures in the classical style or cupids holding a cornucopia (each composed of two or three parts). Gouache on paper. Handwritten notes. Interesting documents, but with numerous blemishes and tears. Variable dimensions: from 32 x 50 to 62 x 60 cm. Note: This design was presented at the World’s Fair in Vienna (Austria) in 1873. The catalog published by this firm for the occasion states, “Louis XIV-style decoration produced mechanically,” in order to demonstrate the spectacular progress made in refining the machinery to achieve a result as beautiful as woodblock printing.
