[NATURAL SCIENCES and HORTICULTURE]. Set of 8 volumes, 19th century, in various conditions and formats. - The Art of Using Fruit and Making All Kinds of Jams and Liqueurs at Little Cost, a follow-up to *The Country Cook*. Paris: Audot, 1818. In-12, (4)-VIII-155 pp. Fine, lightly speckled fawn calfskin (19th century), gilt coat of arms in the center of the covers, gilt edges on marbled paper (spine missing, corners worn, second cover slightly rubbed, a few scattered foxing spots but interior remains fresh). A rare first edition. Often overlooked in bibliographies, which cite only the reprint (by Quentin). Includes the line drawing plate illustrating a cross-section of an underground domestic icehouse, by Susémilh. From the library of Marie-Caroline de Bourbon-Sicile, Duchess of Berry, with one of her gilt bookplates affixed to the covers (similar to OHR, 2519, no. 2). Since this volume does not bear the ex libris of the Library of the Château de Rosny, it belongs to the second part of her life, the titles of which can be found in her posthumous sales. -LEREBOURS, Noël-Marie Paymal. Description of Simplified Achromatic Microscopes by P. N. Lerebours, Manufacturer of Optical, Physical, Mathematical, and Nautical Instruments. Paris, Published by N.-P. Lerebours, (1841). (11)-84-(3) pp., one fold-out plate, and (4) pp. of subscription form. Paperback in in-8 format, cover printed on yellow paper (some foxing but a well-preserved copy). One line drawing and one advertisement for Stanhope microscopes, adorned with a woodcut signed by the author (a drop of water under a microscope). Subscription for the *Excursions Daguerriennes*, 2 ff., a collection of 50 plates extolling the novelty and precision of the daguerreotype just a few years after the first images were taken around 1830. Lerebours (1807–1873) was an optician and daguerreotypist. His achromatic microscopes are still sought after by collectors. Ex dono of the author, whose handwritten inscription appears on the cover; donated to the Société des Sciences Naturelles de Seine et Oise. And miscellaneous items.
