SCHENCK or SCHENK, Peter. Lutetiæ Parisiorum conspectus, prafertim circa Portas Pontes Templa et palatia. Amsterdam, Holland & West Frisia, (ca. 1700–1720). Large oblong quarto, 16 black etchings on laid paper (21.5 x 28.5 cm and ca. 17.3 x 20.3 cm in the print) in black. Modern green half-vellum binding with imitation corners (pages cleaned and in good condition at the time of modern binding; a very small marginal tear on plate (15)). A fine copy. A series of views of the monuments, squares, bridges, and gates of Paris by Peter Schenk (1660–1711) and his sons, notably based on the engraved series by the Perelle family. A beautiful series of 16 original prints and the title engraved in the publisher’s name—17 plates in total—etched and chiseled on copper in black. Dutch reprint from Amsterdam workshops in the 18th century (Schenk) on laid paper with a Fleur-de-lis watermark. A rare, complete, and uniform series, finely engraved. Captioned in Latin and Dutch in the lower margin, they depict views of Paris in great detail, including some less common ones: Porte St. Antoine, View of Notre Dame from the former Porte de la Conférence, Porte St. Bernard, Porte St. Denis from 1673, New Porte St. Honoré, Porte St. Martin, View of Paris from the (Louvre) Bridge, Pont Neuf St. Michel, View of the Louvre, Bird’s-eye view of the Pont Neuf, View of the Pont au Change, Notre Dame and surroundings, Rear view of Notre Dame from the Seine, Entrance to the Louvre Palace, Place des Vosges, View of the Collège de France, The Observatory. "cum Privil." engraved on several plates. Unnumbered. Most of these collections were disassembled in the 19th or 20th century to be sold individually.
