[BARTHELEMY, BARBIE DU BOCAGE (Jean-Denis)]. A collection of maps, plans, views, and medals of Ancient Greece relating to the travels of the Young Anacharsis. Paris: Didot the Younger, Year VII (1798–1799). In-4, (4)-110 pp. Contemporary marbled fawn half-basane, smooth spine with decoration, gilded panels in small neoclassical ironwork, title and volume number labels in green morocco, marbled edges (slight rubbing on the covers, joints, corners, and caps; small losses on the spine; a few foxing spots on the first quires, but the plates are in fine condition; lacks the first general map of Greece, published in 1811). A fine publication by Didot, which is a reprint of the atlas alone from *The Voyage of Anacharsis*. A good copy. Contains, following the *Critical Analysis of the Maps of Ancient Greece*, compiled for *The Voyage of the Young Anacharsis* by Barbié du Bocage, maps and plans engraved in black with watercolor highlights, beautiful black etchings—sometimes spanning two pages—and reproductions of engraved medals from ancient Greece. Includes the engraved frontispiece portrait of Abbé Barthélémy (1716–1795), author of *The Journey of Anacharsis*, drawn and engraved by Augustin de Saint Aubin, and the 39 plates (including the second plate, No. 19, which is not listed in the table of contents). Provenance: from the library of Pierre Séjourné. Pierre Séjourné (1930–1993), a Parisian bookseller and lover of fine bookbindings, a flutist, and an enthusiast of literature and classical music, frequented both the Parisian artistic and literary circles and the world of the Decorative Arts and their schools through his uncle, the architect and academician Albert Laprade. Also an author and actor, he devoted himself to writing and performing his own plays, which were staged primarily in the Paris region. Brunet, I, 674.
