A gilt-bronze figure of seated Shakyamuni Buddha Khasa Malla dynasty, 14th century Seated in dhyanasana, the right hand in bhumisparsha mudra (calling the Earth to witness), the finger joints detailed on the outside of the hand, and the eyebrows stopping at the nasal bridge,40cm high. (Import Duty Charged on the Hammer Price) 落槌價徵收進口關稅 Provenance: Adrian Maynard, London. 卡薩馬拉王朝十四世紀 銅鎏金釋迦摩尼佛坐像 來源:Adrian Maynard,倫敦。 The present figure's naturalistic modelling, notably the carefully articulated finger joints, reflects the refined metalworking tradition of the Newar artists of the Kathmandu Valley, itself indebted to the Pala idiom of eastern India. Newar craftsmen were in demand across the Himalayas in this period, and works made in or for western Nepal and Tibet can be hard to separate stylistically from Kathmandu Valley production. See P. Pal, Art of Nepal: A Catalogue of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art Collection, Los Angeles, 1985, and U. von Schroeder, Buddhist Sculptures of Tibet, Hong Kong, 2001, vol. I.
