MALE BRONZE STATUETTE Roman art, 1st century B.C. – 1st century A.D. A statuette depicting a young man, likely the god Apollo Kitharaeus, standing naked, leaning on his right leg in a slight contrapposto pose, with his left arm raised and his head turned slightly to the right. The facial features are idealized: the pupils of the eyes are engraved, the nose is straight, the cheeks are full, and the lips are plump. The hair is styled in wavy locks gathered at the nape of the neck into a bun. The statuette, inspired by Greek models, was originally intended to hold a lyre in its left hand and a plectrum in its right. The right arm and left foot are missing. Height: 17 cm Provenance: Collection of Charles Gillet (1879–1972), then passed down through the family A Roman bronze statuette of a young man, probably the god Apollo, 1st century B.C.–1st century A.D.
