23 - A Chinese bronze twin handled cooking vessel, MouEastern Han Dynasty (AD 25 - 220)of circular formapproximately 35cm wide x 30cm deep x 19cm highProvenance:Formerly by repute from a private Monmouthshire collectionThe bronze mou (鍪) was a distinctive type of early Chinese cooking vessel primarily used for boiling meat and grain. Originally developed along the Yangzi River in today's Sichuan and Chongqing areas during the Warring States period, the vessel was later adopted across China since the 2nd century BC.
