He worked for Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company(P&O;) from 1918 to 1961. His voyages were mostly to the Far East, where these items were acquired.蘇格蘭私人收藏，愛丁堡；由現任藏家繼承自其父Leonard Porter船長（1901–1988）。Porter船長原籍英格蘭約克郡，後居於蘇格蘭艾爾。1918年至1961年間服務於半島及東方輪船公司，航行主要往返遠東地區，並於當地購藏此等藏品。 Yuan Songnian, also known as Yuan Shi, courtesy name Hewen, was a native of Panyu, Guangdong. He later settled in Shanghai. Yuan specialised in landscape painting, with a particular emphasis on using expressive brushwork to capture the true character and realism of natural scenery. He was a member of the China Artists Association, a painter at the Shanghai Chinese Painting Academy, and a research fellow of the Shanghai Research Institute of Culture and History.
