Ernesto Che Guevara—A historic photograph from 1959/1960? taken at Revolution Square in Havana, Cuba. The photograph was taken shortly after the Cuban Revolution: Ernesto Che Guevara appears smiling and relaxed, in contrast to his and later photos, which are more serious and solemn. Che is wearing the mandatory accreditation badge required to access the monument’s platform, which served as a podium, as well as other medals and military insignia. Behind him, Ramiro Valdés Menéndes (?) can be seen, and around him are military personnel, delegates, or journalists (?). In the background, on the building behind the military personnel, one can make out the Cuban flags and the two-color banners of the July 26 Movement (M-26-7) led by Castro and Che. Photo annotated on the back: J.Cl GUENIER DB 2. Probably Jean-Claude GUENIER, a French researcher and collaborator at the Cuban Institute of Thematic and Socioeconomic Cartography. Enclosed is *Les Mots de CHE Guevara* (The Words of Che Guevara), compiled and presented by Alain Benoit. Published by Robert Morel, I7. Printed by Imprimerie de Sceaux, 92.
