JOSSO (Camille Paul, ill.) & LUCRÈCE. *De Rerum natura*. Paris, C. P. Josso, 1950. Loose-leaf, with a re-bound cover, publisher’s slipcase and case. An artist’s book in a limited edition of only 200 copies; this is one of the personalized copies printed specifically for Jacques Guignand with an EAS from the artist. A paleographer, archivist, and erudite humanist, Jacques Guignard (1912–1980) devoted his career to the National Library, where he directed the Printed Works Collection before heading the Arsenal Library from 1961 to 1980. Combining a deep knowledge of the history of the book with a rare artistic sensibility, he enriched and promoted the heritage collections while playing a pioneering role in the development of international bibliophilia. The text is illustrated with numerous original engravings by Camille Paul Josso (1902–1986). Slight marks on the case; other minor flaws. Included is a specimen copy featuring the first few pages, used to solicit subscribers. Experts: Loup Axmann and Jean-Luc Boisseau
