(R) AN OCTOGONAL FAMILLE ROSE PLATE, QIANLONG PERIOD, CHINA, 18TH CENTURY Dimensions: Height 2,2 cm Diameter 21,5 cm Weight: 322 grams An elegant octagonal Chinese famille rose porcelain plate from the Qianlong period of the eighteenth century. The centre is delicately painted with a peacock standing among flowering branches, ornamental rockwork and garden plants, rendered in soft pink, green, blue and iron-red enamels. The broad white field gives the bird and floral motifs ample space, while the faceted rim is bordered by a graceful sequence of blossoms and fine gilded accents. The peacock is a traditional emblem of beauty, dignity and distinguished rank in Chinese decorative art. With its refined enamel palette, balanced garden scene and appealing octagonal shape, this Qianlong plate embodies the elegance of Qing-dynasty porcelain painting.
