BRONZE OILLAMP INDIA 19TH CENTURY Dimensions: Height 11 cm Wide 5 cm Depth 20 cm Weight: 783 grams An elongated Indian bronze oil vessel with a deeply curved handle at one end and a tall, upward-sweeping spout at the other. A small domed cover closes the central opening, while the sides are densely engraved with scrolling flowers and foliage. A prominent circular floral medallion occupies the centre of the body, surrounded by fine incised borders. The dark surface retains subtle coppery highlights along the raised edges. Indian metalworkers produced a remarkable variety of vessels for oil, combining practical forms with ornament drawn from textiles, architecture and floral design. This nineteenth-century Indian bronze oil lamp is distinguished by the bold curve of the spout and the remarkably full coverage of engraved decoration, which turns a compact vessel into a richly patterned object.
