A SMALL DELICATE STANDING BRONZE GARUDA TIBET 18TH CENTURY Dimensions: Height 8 cm Wide 5 cm Depth 2 cm Weight: 85 grams A small standing bronze figure of Garuda, the divine bird of Hindu and Buddhist imagery, is conceived in a lively, compact format. The slender figure is posed frontally on an oval pedestal, with one arm lowered and the other raised beside the elaborate headdress. Closely worked jewellery, the narrow waist and the ornaments extending around the body give this miniature a lively silhouette. Dark brown patination is relieved by rubbed golden highlights on the projecting surfaces. Despite its scale, the casting preserves numerous small details in the crown, face and garments. The piece is particularly appealing for its compact, carefully balanced composition.
