(R) GUANYIN, BLANC DE CHINE, DE-HUA-MANUFACTORY, CHINA, 19TH CENTURY Dimensions: Height 37,5 cm Wide 14 cm Depth 10 cm without base Weight: 1917 grams with base A refined nineteenth-century Chinese blanc de Chine porcelain figure of Guanyin from the Dehua kilns, standing gracefully upon stylised waves. The bodhisattva of compassion wears long, flowing robes whose finely layered folds fall around the slender figure in a calm, rhythmic arrangement. One hand holds a strand of prayer beads while the other supports a scroll, and the softly modelled face is framed by an elaborate coiffure. The luminous ivory-white glaze emphasises every sculptural contour, from the delicate hands to the drapery and waves below. Dehua porcelain is renowned for its pure monochrome surfaces and elegant devotional figures. This Guanyin, mounted on a fitted wooden stand, is a particularly serene and decorative example of the tradition.
