(R) JAPANESE TABLE SCREEN (TSUITATE), PAINTING ON PAPER WITH GOLD LEAF, EDO PERIOD Dimensions: Height 106 cm Wide 91 cm Depth 26 cm Weight: 4,2 Kilograms A freestanding Japanese table screen set within a broad black frame and supported by two projecting feet. Against a warm, mottled gold-toned ground, a rooster with a high black tail stands beside a feeding hen, while slender bamboo stalks rise along the right and arch across the upper field. The birds are rendered with careful attention to plumage and posture, their naturalistic colours enlivening the otherwise restrained palette. Wear and irregularities in the ground remain visible. The combination of domestic fowl and bamboo belongs to the familiar vocabulary of Japanese decorative painting, bringing a lively observation of nature into the interior. As a tsuitate, the screen is both a pictorial object and a modest architectural element, designed to be viewed at close range. For lots marked with (R), a 19% VAT is added to the combined hammer price and commission. This VAT is waived for: - Private buyers outside the EU who officially export the items.- Businesses inside the EU holding a valid VAT number, exporting to their home country. Proper export documentation is required to waive the VAT
