A TIBETAN SEATED BRONZE MEDICINE BUDDHA 1950'S Dimensions: Height 30 cm Wide 24 cm Depth 15 cm Weight: 3403 grams A seated bronze Buddha on a double lotus pedestal, the body held upright in a composed meditative pose. One hand rests toward the knee and the other lies in the lap, while the robe follows the contours of the torso and legs in restrained folds. The elongated ears, close-set curls and gently lowered gaze lend the face an inward, contemplative expression. Areas of warm brown surface colour contrast with darker recesses and traces of wear. The lotus throne raises the figure symbolically above the ordinary world, while the measured posture directs attention toward stillness rather than movement. The simplicity of the silhouette allows the modelling of the face and hands to carry much of the image's devotional force.
