A GROUP OF FOUR INDIAN BRONZE DEITIES 17TH TO 18TH CENTURY Dimensions: Height 8,8 cm Wide 5,2 cm Depth 2,5 cm Weight: 397 grams An attractive group of four Indian bronze Hindu deities dating from the seventeenth to eighteenth centuries. The ensemble comprises individually cast standing and seated figures, each distinguished by its own crown, hand gestures, ornaments and ritual attributes. The varying poses and proportions create a lively arrangement, while their warm brown bronze surfaces reveal natural differences in patination and handling. Small personal devotional images formed an important part of Indian religious practice and allowed worshippers to keep representations of the divine within domestic shrines. Presented together, these four bronzes form an appealing survey of traditional Indian sacred metalwork, combining iconographic diversity, compact scale and individual sculptural character.
