FAMILLE ROSE FLORAL PLATE, QIANLONG PERIOD (1736–1795) Dimensions: Height 2,6 cm Wide 22,5 cm Depth 22,5 cm Weight: 389 grams A delicately potted porcelain plate with a broad shallow well, painted in famille rose enamels. Peonies and other blossoms grow beside ornamental rocks in the centre, framed by fine iron-red circles. Scattered floral sprays enliven the cavetto and rim, while the pale ground gives the composition an airy quality. Flower painting was among the most enduring decorative subjects in Qing porcelain, allowing artists to combine naturalistic observation with auspicious symbolism. Peonies were particularly associated with wealth and honour, making them an appropriate choice for tableware and display. The plate's charm lies in its restrained use of colour and the balance between the central floral group and the lighter border decoration.
