GREEN STONE FIGURE OF GANESHA INDIA 18TH CENTURY Dimensions: Height 20 cm Wide 15 cm Depth 8 cm Weight: 2547 grams A compact green-stone carving of Ganesha seated in lalitasana on a rectangular plinth. The elephant-headed deity is shown with four arms holding attributes, his rounded body and curling trunk set within a tightly organised frontal composition. A small mouse carved on the base identifies Ganesha's traditional vehicle, while Shaivite markings on the forehead include the tripundra and a solar emblem. Ganesha is invoked as the remover of obstacles and patron of beginnings, learning and good fortune. His images are among the most immediately recognisable in Hindu art, and the presence of the mouse adds both iconographic specificity and a characteristic play of scale. The dense green stone gives the figure a strong material presence and allows the carved details to stand out against the broad surfaces.
