STANDING BRONZE VISHNU INDIA 12TH CENTURY Dimensions: Height 18 cm Wide 9 cm Depth 5 cm without base Weight: 1057 grams with base A standing bronze Vishnu shown frontally on a rectangular pedestal, flanked by two smaller attendant figures identified in the source as Sri Devi and Bhu Devi. The deity has four arms and wears a high kirita-mukuta, jewellery and a closely draped lower garment secured at the waist. Heavy mineral accretions obscure some of the original attributes, yet the narrow waist, broad shoulders and formal symmetry of the composition remain clearly legible. The ensemble follows an established Vaishnava devotional format in which Vishnu, the Preserver, appears together with his divine consorts. The smaller flanking figures reinforce the hierarchy of the central deity while transforming the sculpture into a complete sacred group rather than an isolated image. The bronze is distinguished by a thick pale-green and turquoise patina with extensive encrustation and areas of corrosion. Mounted on a later stand, it retains a strongly archaeological surface whose irregular texture contrasts with the underlying elegance of the medieval figure.
