SEATED BRONZE BUDDHA EARLY KASHMIR 13TH CENTURY Dimensions: Height 29 cm Wide 25 cm Depth 14 cm Weight: 4508 grams A seated bronze Buddha shown cross-legged on a lotus cushion above a substantial stepped base. His right hand extends towards the knee while the left rests in his lap, and the robe falls in closely modelled folds across the shoulders and torso. The calm face is framed by elongated earlobes and a rounded arrangement of hair surmounted by a small finial. The pedestal is unusually elaborate, combining several architectural registers with small relief figures or animal motifs around its front. The bronze displays a varied brown surface with lighter highlights accentuating the contours. The figure draws on the expressive sculptural language of Kashmir-inspired Buddhist art. Its decorative base forms an important part of the overall composition. AGE CONFIRMED BY OXFORD TEXT , FEBRUARY 2026
