A SEATED BRONZE BUDDHA SHAKYAMUNI TIBET 15TH CENTURY Dimensions: Height 16,5 cm Wide 12 cm Depth 8 cm Weight: 880 grams A fifteenth-century Tibetan bronze Buddha Shakyamuni seated in meditation upon a finely cast double-lotus throne. The right hand extends downward in bhumisparsha mudra, the earth-touching gesture recalling the Buddha's enlightenment, while the left rests peacefully in the lap. His simple monastic robe follows the contours of the torso, and the composed face is framed by close curls and elongated earlobes. Warm brown patination and darker recesses enrich the smooth modelling of the body and the rhythmic lotus petals of the pedestal. The stillness of the pose and clarity of the iconography make this a beautifully balanced Himalayan Buddhist devotional bronze.
