SEATED COPPER AMITAYUS BUDDHA MING PERIOD Dimensions: Height 18 cm Wide 12 cm Depth 8 cm Weight: 948 grams A richly ornamented seated Buddhist figure rests cross-legged on a double-lotus pedestal. The crowned head is framed by elaborate side ornaments, and the torso is covered with necklaces and beaded details. Several arms extend around the body, with the lower hands meeting before the lap while the upper hands hold or gesture toward small attributes. The lotus petals and beaded borders of the pedestal remain strongly articulated. The image belongs to the complex iconographic language of Himalayan Buddhist sculpture, where crowns, ritual implements and multiple arms distinguish particular enlightened figures and their qualities. In this example, the compact arrangement of the limbs and the symmetrical pedestal create a composed silhouette despite the abundance of ornamental detail. The multiple arms, detailed ornament and rich surface tones heighten the sculptural complexity of the image. Darkened passages and traces of warm gilded colour accentuate the relief.
