(R) TWO JAPANESE DRWAINGS A pair of Japanese drawings mounted together, each presenting a small figural scene in a light, economical manner. One sheet shows a smiling man leaning forward with a shallow red dish, while the other depicts a standing figure with accessories and finely indicated clothing. Loose ink lines are selectively heightened with colour, leaving much of the surrounding paper open. The drawings have the immediacy of studies or illustrated album leaves rather than formal paintings. Their charm lies in gesture, expression and the selective use of colour, which gives the figures personality without heavy modelling. For lots marked with (R), a 19% VAT is added to the combined hammer price and commission. This VAT is waived for: - Private buyers outside the EU who officially export the items.- Businesses inside the EU holding a valid VAT number, exporting to their home country. Proper export documentation is required to waive the VAT
