SEATED BRONZE FIREGILT AMITAYUS TIBET 18TH CENTURY Dimensions: Height 2 cm Wide 14 cm Depth 9 cm Weight: 1280 grams A seated gilt-coloured figure of Amitayus on a double-lotus pedestal, the legs folded in meditation and both hands supporting a small vessel at the centre of the lap. An elaborate crown rises above the composed face, with long earrings, necklaces and curling scarf-like ornaments framing the torso. Small touches of blue remain around the crown and upper body, contrasting with the luminous gold-toned surface. Amitayus, the Buddha of Infinite Life, is commonly represented holding the vessel of longevity while seated in a meditative posture. The symmetrical arrangement of the hands and legs creates a calm centre, balanced by the intricate ornament around the head and shoulders. The carefully repeated lotus petals reinforce the devotional character of the image and give the figure a strong architectural base.
