(R )A SMALL BOWL, LUNG CHUAN, SUNG DYNASTY, CHINA, 12TH CENTURY Dimensions: Height 7,5 cm Wide 9 cm Depth 9 cm Weight: 219 grams A small Longquan celadon bowl with rounded sides rising from a neat foot to a gently flaring rim. The exterior is articulated by evenly spaced vertical flutes, while the interior remains plain, allowing the softly lustrous grey-green glaze to dominate. The glaze gathers more deeply in recessed areas and thins at the edges, subtly modelling the form through variations of colour. Longquan celadon became one of the defining ceramic traditions of the Song period. Its beauty rests on the relationship between dense stoneware body and thick iron-bearing glaze, fired to tones ranging from cool grey-green to richer jade-like hues. The restrained decoration of this bowl is characteristic of an aesthetic in which proportion and surface mattered more than pictorial display. The fluted exterior gives the vessel a quiet sculptural rhythm without disturbing its essential simplicity. Small enough to be appreciated in the hand, it demonstrates why Longquan wares were treasured across Asia: the bowl's refinement is immediate, but never ostentatious. For lots marked with (R), a 19% VAT is added to the combined hammer price and commission. This VAT is waived for: - Private buyers outside the EU who officially export the items.- Businesses inside the EU holding a valid VAT number, exporting to their home country. Proper export documentation is required to waive the VAT
