A YELLOW-GLAZED CUP, CHINA; KANGXI PERIOD (1662–1722) Dimensions: Height 4,6 cm Wide 8,5 cm Depth 8,5 cm Weight: 89 grams A finely potted porcelain cup with gently flaring sides rising from a neat circular foot. The exterior is covered with an even warm yellow glaze, while the interior remains white, creating a restrained contrast between the two surfaces. The simplicity of the form places particular emphasis on the quality and uniformity of the monochrome glaze. Yellow held an especially elevated place within the colour hierarchy of Qing ceramics and was closely associated with the imperial household and court ritual. On undecorated vessels the glaze itself becomes the principal aesthetic element, requiring careful preparation and firing to achieve a clean, saturated surface without distracting ornament. The base is stated to bear a six-character Kangxi reign mark in underglaze blue within a double circle. The cup's appeal lies in its precise proportions and disciplined monochrome treatment, qualities that reward close inspection despite its small scale.
