310 - LARGE GILT BRONZE SEATED GREEN TARA TIBET 18TH CENTURY

LARGE GILT BRONZE SEATED GREEN TARA TIBET 18TH CENTURY Dimensions: Height 37 cm Wide 23 cm Depth 17 cm Weight: 7468 grams A substantial gilt-bronze figure of the seated female deity, poised upon a layered lotus pedestal with one leg extended in a relaxed yet alert posture. Her serene face is framed by an elaborate crown and tall floral ornaments, while fine jewellery and the rhythmic folds of the lower garment catch the light across the gilded surface. The openwork elements surrounding the shoulders lend the otherwise compact silhouette a delicate, upward movement. Green Tara is revered in Tibetan Buddhism as a compassionate and responsive saviour, frequently shown with one leg released from meditation to suggest readiness to act. The contrast between her composed expression and the outward movement of the limbs gives the figure its particular devotional character.
