291 - A CHINESE PORCELAIN DOUCAI LOTUS SCROLL BOWL

A CHINESE PORCELAIN DOUCAI LOTUS SCROLL BOWL Dimensions: Height 7 cm Wide 14,5 cm Depth 14,5 cm Weight: 252,3 grams A porcelain bowl with gently flaring sides and a small circular foot, the exterior decorated with a continuous arrangement of flowering lotus scrolls. Broad blossoms in warm orange-red are surrounded by curling green and turquoise foliage, with fine blue outlines and small blue details lending definition to the pattern. A narrow blue line follows the rim, while the pale interior remains undecorated, setting off the lively enamelled exterior. The lotus is among the most enduring motifs in Chinese art, valued both for its decorative elegance and for associations with purity and renewal. In porcelain ornament, interlacing lotus scrolls can create an unbroken rhythm that follows the curve of the vessel and reinforces its symmetry. The carefully balanced pattern, fresh palette and generous open shape give this small vessel a bright and harmonious character.
