Auction ended

(R) A JADE CELADON BI-DISC WITH PHOENIX, CHINA, 18TH CENTURY Dimensions: Height 7,6 cm Wide 5,5 cm Depth 0,7 cm Weight: 40,5 grams A small celadon-green jade bi disc is surmounted by an openwork bird with an elongated, curling neck and finely indicated plumage. The smooth circular disc is pierced at its centre, while the lively silhouette above introduces movement through layered curves and delicate openings. Subtle variations in the pale stone remain visible across the polished surface. The bi disc is one of the enduring forms of Chinese jade carving, repeatedly reinterpreted in later periods. Combining a severe geometric circle with a flowing animal form, the carving unites the ceremonial resonance of the disc with the decorative vitality of openwork jade.
