A SEATED BRONZE GANESHA INDIA 16TH CENTURY Dimensions: Height 9,5 cm Wide 7,5 cm Depth 4 cm An expressive sixteenth-century Indian bronze image of Ganesha seated upon a compact pedestal. The elephant-headed deity wears an elaborate crown and ornaments, with several arms extending around the rounded torso to display ritual attributes and gestures of blessing. The curling trunk reaches towards a small vessel, while the broad ears, strongly modelled limbs and deeply worked details create a lively, concentrated composition. Warm reddish-brown metal and patches of darker and greenish patination accentuate the figure's texture. Ganesha, the remover of obstacles and patron of learning and prosperity, is a beloved subject of Hindu temple and household worship. This intimate bronze combines a joyful presence with rich iconographic detail.
