GROUP OF FOUR INDIAN AND SOUTHEAST ASIAN BRONZES 19TH–20TH CENTURY Dimensions: Height 8 to 20 cm Weight: 920 grams A varied group of four small bronze figures, including a tall standing figure with an elaborate headpiece, a compact figure carrying a pole across the shoulders, a dancer-like figure with one arm lifted and a slender standing female figure. Their contrasting proportions and gestures are immediately apparent when they are arranged together, from the solid weight of the central figure to the delicacy of the tallest silhouette. The group brings together different strands of South and Southeast Asian figural imagery, in which devotional figures, performers and attendants may share an interest in expressive posture and distinctive dress. Together, the four bronzes offer a lively variety of casting styles, surface tones and sculptural movement.
