YONGZHENG-STYLE FAMILLE ROSE PORCELAIN FIGURE OF A FOREIGN TRIBUTE BEARER Dimensions: Height 24,8 cm Wide 13 cm Depth 8 cm Weight: 784 grams A standing porcelain figure of a bearded tribute bearer, enamelled in a vivid famille rose palette. One arm rises beside the elaborate headdress while the other is held across the body, creating a pronounced sense of movement. A dark upper garment contrasts with green sleeves, pink and turquoise ornament, and a brightly patterned lower robe. The strongly modelled face, with prominent eyes and a full beard, is deliberately expressive. Images of tribute bearers formed part of the Qing decorative vocabulary. In porcelain and other media, distinctive clothing, headgear and facial features were used to evoke visitors from distant regions. The figure is described as Yongzheng-style, a stylistic designation that does not by itself establish manufacture during that reign or identify a particular historical community. The raised arm and varied enamel colours make the figure unusually animated. Its decorative strength comes from contrasting glazed surfaces, elaborate costume details and an expressive stance that invites viewing from several angles.
